Facial Calcinosis in Lupus Erythematosus
- Facial soft tissue calcifications are rare. Soft tissue calcifications can be classified broadly into 1) metastatic calcifications secondary to hypercalcemia and hyperphosphatemia and 2) dystrophic calcifications.
- DDx: Differential diagnosis of dystrophic soft tissue calcifications include heterotopic ossification, injection granulomas, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, tumor necrosis, osteoma, osteosarcoma, parasitic infestation, and venous insufficiency.
- Rx: Depends on the underlying cause.
