Pterygoid Hamulus Syndrome
- Pterygoid hamulus syndrome is rare, with approximately 40 cases reported to date. Symptoms are thought to be caused by underlying bursitis or osteophytes.
- Key Imaging Features: History of pain that correlates with palpable hamuli on examination and erythema and keratinization of the overlying soft tissue. CT of facial bones, preferably cone-beamed to save radiation dose, confirms imaging features of elongated hamuli.
- Rx: Conservative treatment with NSAIDS; rarely, surgical resection
