Benign Lymphoepithelial Cysts
- Benign lymphoepithelial lesions (cystic and solid) are seen in approximately 5% of HIV positive patients.
- On pathology these are seen as cystic lesions lined by squamous epithelium accompanied with abundant lymphoid stroma. Rarely, these lesions may transform into B-cell lymphoma.
- Bilateral painless swelling of the neck in the parotid regions. Age: any age group in patients infected with HIV
- Key Diagnostic Features: Multiple cystic and solid lesions in both parotid glands. Associated findings such as reactive cervical adenopathy and hypertrophy of lymphoid tissue in the palatine, lingual, or adenoid regions may be seen.
- DDx: Sjögren's syndrome, sarcoidosis, Warthin's tumor, lymphoma and metastasis
