In the May 2001 issue of the AJNR, I found a Historical Perspective article (1) about the articles on electrothrombosis of saccular aneurysms, which I published in 1991 (2, 3).
I feel truly honored, and I wholeheartedly wish to thank the author, Dr Charles Strother, and the AJNR. However, the perspective is not precise in the part that describes the first clinical case.
In fact, on March 6, 1990, different from what the Historical Perspective says, I did actively participate in the first Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC) procedure. With the invaluable help and insight of my colleagues at the University of California, Los Angeles, I did place, with my hands, the first GDCs in a human being, and I detached them, applying, for the first time, the electric current.
I am aware that this detail is not at all important for practical purposes; however, in the context of the history of our discipline, this adjustment portrays the real circumstances.
