Arachnoid Cyst with Intracystic and Subdural Hematoma
- Arachnoid cysts are extracerebral, intra-arachnoidal cerebrospinal fluid collections that are most commonly found in the middle cranial fossa (50%).
- Most arachnoid cysts are asymptomatic; however, they can become symptomatic due to cyst enlargement or hemorrhage within the cyst.
- Hemorrhage may be spontaneous, follow minor trauma or severe trauma, and could be caused by ruptured intracystic or bridging vessels.
- Hemorrhage may also be isolated to the cyst or be associated with subdural and, rarely, extradural hematoma.
